ICT Development In Indonesia

Indonesia still often lags behind in the developments in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure and ICT utilization as compared to its neighboring countries. But now Indonesia has made significant progress in information and communication technologies (ICT) development. Internet penetration in Indonesia has reached 40 percent of the population, mostly through the use of mobile and smartphones rather than desktops in offices and at home.

The development of ICT in the world is very fast, from time to time. The development of ICT is certainly a huge potential to improve the quality of education. Because information technology stores information about all things that are unlimited, then this can be utilized for the benefit of educational development that is no longer limited by space and time. Of course, this will be a big challenge for teachers in Indonesia and in another country because they are required to understand, understand, operate, and explore ICT well so that it can be applied in learning. In addition, teachers must think more creatively, innovatively, and broadly so that they can improve the quality of learning.

In the other hand, businesses in Indonesia is adopting ICTs to increase productivity and expand their activities. Capital investment in ICT systems if properly implemented would boost the Indonesian economy.  With a population of around 250 million people and a growing economy, Indonesia has the potential for a position in the dynamic Southeast Asian region and a lot of creative young people to build the future of the country. Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara admitted that Indonesia`s vision to be among the best two in terms of ICT infrastructure is indeed an ambitious one, considering that the internet penetration in 2017 had reached 55 percent, covering 145 million people in the country. Such coverage added, is still bigger than the total population of Southeast Asia. ICT in Indonesia will continue to grow, as many more unicorn companies would be emerging in the country.
